The following tips should be used when preparing to live catch your
nuisance animal.
- Havahart® recommends that you contact the Humane Society, or the local or
state game commission before setting a trap to determine the lawful method of
releasing a captured wild or nuisance animal. Many species are protected by law
in various states. - Following the instructions contained in the carton, you may want to test the
trap and spring it a few times to make sure that it works properly. For example,
spring it by touching the trip plate from each end, This should be done also
after the trap has been set and camouflaged to make sure it works freely. If you
feel the doors do not work fast enough, place small stones or other weights on
top of the door. This will cause doors to drop faster. - When you receive the trap it will be bright and new. Therefore do not be
discouraged in case you do not catch what you anticipated the first night or
day. The effectiveness of Havahart® traps usually improve with age. Some animals
do not mind a new trap while others do. So instead of setting the trap to catch
the first animal to come along, bait the trap, or simply place it where you
intend to set it and fasten the doors open by means of a stick or wire. - After a couple of days, when you notice the bait has been disturbed or
taken, it is time to set the trap. Camouflaging the trap is an effective means
to entice the animal. Place twigs and leaves all over the trap to remove a lot
of the glare from the trap. You can even spray it with water and throw dirt on
it to give it a conditioned look. Animals will not be discouraged from entering
the trap by the smell of your handling the trap or from supposed machine/oil
odors in the manufacturing process
Top Trapping Tips
- Check traps often and be aware of the weather. Trapped animals should not be
left out in the elements as they can die from prolonged exposure to heat and
cold. - Check traps FREQUENTLY. Wild animals stress easily and may seriously injure
themselves as they attempt to escape. - If you trap a no target animal you should contact a licensed wildlife
rehabilitator in your state for releasing advice. - Depending on the time of year, check to see if you have trapped a nursing
mother, tip the trap over to see her belly. Babies will not survive without
mother. - Traps should be washed, disinfected with a bleach solution (1 part bleach to
9 parts of water and let it remain on for 20 minutes), and thoroughly rinsed
after each capture to stop the spread of any potential disease.

Gentrol Point Source®
Target Pests = Cockroaches, stored product pests All the benefits of an Insect
Growth Regulator (IGR) in a discreet, non-spray formulation. Contains the
Insect Growth Regulator (S)-Hydroprene for 90-day control of stored product pests.
Pests don’t need to come
in contact with the device to be affected.
- Ideal for food
handling establishments and other sensitive accounts. - No need to vacate
areas during treatment.
How It Works Activating
Gentrol Point Source® is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic,
adhesive-back device. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From
there, it moves up to 75 square feet. That way, pests never need to come in
contact with the device. (S)-Hydroprene, the active ingredient, prevents pest
larvae from progressing to the adult stage either causing sterility of adults
or preventing the emergence of insects from the pupal stage — preventing future
infestations.
Application Sites
The discreet delivery
system of Gentrol Point Source is ideal for sensitive accounts like these:
- Food Handling
Establishments - Hospitals
- Nursing Homes
- Areas Where Spraying
Isn’t Acceptable (e.g., Electrical Boxes and Computer Equipment)
Gentrol Point Source®
- Excellent for
sensitive accounts. - Long-term control,
with coverage of up to 75 feet. - The
“bubble” surrounding the vial of Gentrol® located on Gentrol Point
Source® makes an ideal placement location for bait. Placing the bait on the
Gentrol Point Source cockroach control device encourages cockroaches to feed on
the bait. As a result, cockroaches defecate on the Gentrol Point Source device,
which in turn attracts more cockroaches due to the aggregate pheromone in their
feces. The plastic on Gentrol Point Source will not extract moisture from the
bait like porous, unfinished wood, tile and concrete can.

Heritage Fungicide DF 50- 1 lb
Heritage Fungicide 1 lb (16 oz)
Heritage is a fungicide with a novel mode of action.
Field test have
shown that Heritage consistently provides exceptional disease control for
extended intervals and improves turf quality.
Heritage controls a broad
spectrum of turf grass diseases, including brown patch, Pythium and snow
mold.
Diuron 80 DF Herbicide 4 lb bags
Diuron 80 DF is a dispersible granule
herbicide to be mixed with water and applied as a spray for selective control
of weeds in certain crops and for non-selective weed
control on noncropland areas. It is non-corrosive to equipment,
non-flammable, and non-volatile.
Diuron 80DF may be applied to soil
prior to emergence of weeds to control susceptible weed seedlings for an
extended period of time. The degree of control and duration of effect of this
weed killer will vary with the amount of chemical applied, soil texture,
rainfall, and other conditions. Soils high in clay or organic matter require
higher dosages than soils low in clay or organic matter for equivalent
herbicide performance. Moisture is required to activate the herbicide. Best
results occur if rainfall (or sprinkler irrigation) occurs within 2 weeks of
application.
Diuron 80DF applied before emergence
of crop and weeds is an effective procedure because susceptible weeds are
controlled in an early, vulnerable seedling stage before they compete with the
crop. With favorable moisture conditions, Alligare Diuron 80DF continues to
control weeds for some time as the crop becomes better able to compete. Should
weed seedlings begin to break through the preemergence treatment in significant
numbers, secondary weed control procedures should be implemented; these include
cultivation and postemergence herbicide application.
Diuron 80DF may also be used to
control emerged weeds. Results vary with rate applied and environmental
conditions. Best results are obtained on succulent weeds growing under
conditions of high humidity and temperature of 70°F or higher. Addition of a
surfactant to the spray (where recommended) increases contact effects of
Alligare Diuron 80DF.
Diuron 80DF may be used as a
directed postemergence application. Contact of crop foliage and/or fruit with
spray or mist must be avoided on the following crops: artichoke, corn (field),
cotton, sorghum (grain), sugarcane, and established plantings of apples,
bananas, plantains, blueberries, caneberries, gooseberries, citrus, grapes,
macadamia nuts, olives, papayas, peaches, pears, pecans, walnuts, and certain
tree plantings as injury may occur.
Along with Diuron 80 DF Herbicide,
ePestSolutions also offers other weed control products and do it yourself
pest control including weed killers for lawns, at the right prices
with the fastest delivery.

Bayer’s Maxforce(Max
Force) Quantum Ant Bait is a high performance, low impact, ant bait that
remains effective for up to three months. Maxforce Quantum controls many ant
species, including Argentine ants, Pharaoh ants, ghost ants, black garden ants,
odorous house ants, and crazy ants.
Maxforce Quantum is made
with a low dose of imidacloprid, Quantum attracts ants with its “Simply
Irresistible “bait matrix and features the exclusive Domino Effect, a
delayed action kill whereby foraging ants bring the bait back to the nest and
feed it to the queen(s) and larvae, killing the entire colonies. The bait’s
moisture-rich hydroscopic formula ensures that it will continue to deliver
results long after it’s applied. May be used inside or outside.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
It is a violation of
Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Read entire label before using this product.
Use sites include
residential buildings, schools, commercial and industrial buildings (e.g.,
warehouses, supermarkets, restaurants, motels, hotels, hospitals, nursing
homes, laboratories, computer facilities, pet shops, zoos, food processing
plants, food handling/storage establishments) and transportation equipment
(e.g., aircraft, trains, ships, boats, buses, cars, trucks, vans, and
recreational vehicles).
Maxforce Quantum Ant
Bait is a ready-to-use bait formulation for the control of ants, (excluding
fire, harvester and carpenter) and can be used in both outdoor and indoor
locations. Containing imidacloprid, this bait resists drying out and remains
palatable to ants for up to 3 months in indoor environments. Maxforce Quantum
Ant Bait is designed to take advantage of trophallaxis (food exchange) in ants,
allowing for transfer of imidacloprid within the ant colony. Foraging ants that
feed on the bait will return to the nest and transfer the bait to the queen(s)
and the entire colony. Dead worker ants and a reduction in ant numbers should
be noticeable within a few days. Formulated to be attractive to many species of
pest ants, Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait controls a broad spectrum of ants. Species
attracted to and controlled by this bait include: Acrobat ant, Argentine ant,
Big-Headed ants, Black Garden Ant, Crazy ants, Ghost ant, Little Black ant,
Odorous House ant, Pavement ant, Pharaoh’s ant, Rover ants, Thief ant, or
White-Footed ant. These and other ant species are attracted to sweets and
moisture will be attracted to and controlled by this bait.
APPLICATION INFORMATION
Application Rates: Place
bait in areas of known foraging activity, along foraging trails and into nest
sites. A careful inspection will help to identify sites suitable for bait
placement. Apply bait into cracks, crevices, holes or other small openings
where ants travel. Apply bait in small spots or beads on horizontal surfaces
wherever possible as bait will not adhere well to vertical surfaces. The amount
of bait required for effective control will depend on the severity of the ant
infestation; the total amount of bait applied must not exceed the application
rate outlined below.
- Indoors, apply at
rates up to 2.0 g per 100 sq ft of floor space. For example, apply 10 x 0.2-g
bait placements (ca. 1/4 inch “spots”) in a 100 square foot kitchen in the
areas where ants are seen or reported to be foraging. - Outdoors, apply
spots or beads of bait up to 0.2 g of bait per placement in areas where ant
activity is observed. - At the entrance to
ant nests, inject up to 2.0 g of bait directly into nest entrance. - Along active
foraging trails apply 0.6 g of bait per 10 linear feet of ant trail,
distributing the bait in a number of spots or in a series of small beads (1/8
inch wide, and 1 to 2 inches long) next to foraging trails. During follow up
visits inspect bait placements and reapply as needed; reapply bait in the same
location if all the bait is gone or in a different area if no ant activity is
evident.
REFILLABLE STATIONS:
Maxforce Quantum Ant
Bait may be placed into refillable bait stations designed for interior or
exterior/perimeter use; when placing bait in the station, do not exceed the
capacity of the station’s reservoir. Close bait station securely after
application. During follow up visits inspect placements and reapply as needed.
Place stations near ant trails, nest sites, where ants are actively foraging or
suspected areas of ant activity. Stations may also be placed along fence lines
and property lines to intercept foraging ants entering the property.
Indoor Use Directions
Indoor applications are
limited to areas that are inaccessible to children or pets, such as cracks,
crevices, wall voids, unfinished attics, crawl spaces, refillable bait stations
[see above] and behind electrical switch plates.
Apply Maxforce Quantum
Ant Bait in small amounts between different elements of construction, behind or
beneath equipment, behind baseboards or molding, at openings into voids, and
within hollow spaces in equipment bases and legs, walls, floors and ceilings,
cabinets and near sinks or stoves, in bathrooms and in garbage collection
areas. Make bait placements where ants may be entering the structure, around
plumbing pipes, utility lines, doors or windows.
Use as a spot or crack
and crevice treatment to control ants in residential structures and in non-food
/non-feed areas of commercial, industrial, public and institutional buildings.
Nonfood/non-feed areas include areas such as garbage rooms, lavatories, floor
drains (to sewers), entries, and vestibules, offices, locker rooms, machine
rooms, boiler rooms, garages, mop closets and storage (after bottling or
canning). Refer to section below for use directions and restrictions when
making applications in food/feed handling areas of Food/Feed Handling
Establishments.
FOOD/FEED HANDLING
ESTABLISHMENTS:
Application in food/feed
areas of food/feed handling establishments is limited to crack and crevice
treatment only.
Do not apply bait to
areas where food/feed, food utensils or food processing surfaces may become
contaminated. Do not apply bait in cracks and crevices of areas that are
routinely washed, tops of tables, food/feed preparation and prepared food/feed
holding surfaces as bait may be removed by washing. Care must be taken to avoid
depositing bait onto exposed surfaces. If bait contacts an exposed surface,
remove it and wash exposed surface.
Food/feed areas include
areas for receiving, storage, packing (canning, bottling, wrapping, boxing),
preparing edible waste for storage, and enclosed processing systems (mills,
dairies, edible oils, syrups). Serving areas are also considered a food/feed
area when food is exposed and facility is in operation. Application of this
product in food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments other than as a
crack and crevice treatment is not permitted.
Outdoor Use Directions
A careful inspection
around a structure can help identify areas where ants are nesting, actively
foraging, or are gaining access to the structure. Place bait on or adjacent to
the structure where you observe ants or to areas of suspected ant activity to
control ants before they enter the structure. Place bait in cracks and crevices
(in brick walls, between pavement slabs, in tree holes, under stones, etc.)
where ants are seen to be active or ant trails are evident. To maximize
residual effectiveness, apply Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait in locations that are
protected from direct sunlight and rain or irrigation. Make spot treatments
outdoors where ants are seen, next to ant trails and suspected areas of ant
activity. Likely locations for bait placements are points of entry into
structure (e.g., along windows, doors, between construction elements) and areas
where ants may find water (e.g., eaves, soffits, weep holes), and especially
where wires or pipes enter the structure. Bait can also be applied at trees,
stumps, roots, wood decks, fences, planter boxes, woodpiles, landscaping, and
railroad ties where ants may build nests.
USE RESTRICTIONS
- Do not apply bait in
locations that are easily accessible to children and pets. In pet shops and
zoos place bait out of reach of pets and zoo animals. - Do not apply in
excessively dusty, damp or greasy locations, and areas which are subjected to
routine washing, as bait will be removed by washing. - Do not apply bait to
areas where food/feed utensils or processing surfaces may become contaminated.
Product may stain
textiles, clothing and porous surfaces; if concerned for risk of staining apply
a small amount of product in an inconspicuous location before treating wider
area

Ant Facts
Ant Facts
More than 10,000 species may exist worldwide. Approximately 570 species occur in the United States and of these, fewer than 30 species may regularly infest homes and other buildings with only ten species considered major pests. Ants have succeeded in replacing other types of structural pests as the number one pest in homes in many parts of the United States. In Texas, the imported fire ant has been deemed by pest control companies as the number one structural pest. In the Pacific Northwest, carpenter ants are responsible for most homeowner calls to pest control operators. All ant species member live in colonies with one to many queens, immature, numerous sterile female workers and occasionally males. The workers are wingless and characterized by elbowed antennae and the constricted first one or two segments of the abdomen. Ants can be detrimental to human health; their presence under certain situations can pose a serious human health risk. In hospitals, health care facilities, food processing plants, food packaging plants and food preparation areas of various structures, the presence of ants should not be tolerated because of potential for disease transmission. Ants frequently are annoying and sometimes dangerous because of their bites and or stings. Not all ants sting. In many ants, the sting has practically disappeared, but venom may be injected into a wound made from a bite. Many ants produce a toxin secreted by glands in the head which is deposited in the bite. The substance is called formic acid and is the source of the scientific name of the ants, Formicidae. Ants commonly attack livestock. Workers of harvester and fire ants have been reported attacking and killing young pigs. There are also reports of fire ants attacking and killing chicks and newborn calves. Some species of the big-head ant are intermediate hosts of various poultry tapeworms. Ants can damage crops and ornamental plants. The red imported fire ant is known to remove seeds from seed beds and feed on the seeds of corn, peanuts and beans. Workers of the red imported fire ant will chew on the roots, stems and leaves of plants. In some cases, seedlings are girdled and die. Ants can spoil range land for grazing by building mounds and clearing sites for their nests. Harvester ants clear large areas of all vegetation about their nest structure. These ants have a potent sting which may further discourage grazing about their nests, Fire ants pose a special problem to harvest operations in hayfields as their large, hardened mounds are known to break harvesting equipment. Enjoyment of parks and recreational areas where the fire ant is prevalent is often spoiled. Fire ants also show a fascination for electricity and have many reports of damage to electrical equipment. Carpenter ant workers will strip the insulation from cables, causing them to short. Shade trees are damaged by Carpenter ants. Telephone poles are also not immune to ant attack. Carpenter ants are the major group of ants that cause damage to wooden structures. These ants tunnel through wood but do not consume it for food as is the case with termites. Control Most ant infestations originate from outside the building. Failure to inspect outside to find outdoor colonies or foraging trails is the primary reason most ant control services are unsuccessful. A pest management professional experienced in ant control can quickly locate the source of ant infestations most of the time.
Going Green in the Garden
Going Green in the Garden
Planting season is finally here, and summer vegetables and herbs are on their
way! Now if only we can keep the pests out of our vegetable gardens so we can
enjoy the fruits of our hard labor, instead of them, all will be well. Since we
plan on feeding ourselves and our family’s from that garden, it is even more
important that we investigate green pest control options and at least attempt to
utilize other methods of pest control besides chemicals.
Planning is an
important part of minimizing the opportunity for pests to invade your garden. If
you begin your vegetable garden by creating a habitat that is not inviting to
pests, you have already won half of the battle. There are a number of plants and
herbs that many everyday pests do not like. Marigolds, mint, lavender, garlic
and thyme are some of them and can be used to deter various garden pests.
“Flowers in my vegetable garden?!” you may say. “ABSOLUTA-TU-TA-TIVELY!” I
respond. Just because it is a vegetable garden, is no reason that it can’t be
lovely to look at. Alternate marigolds between tomato plants and save yourself
more headaches later down the road, and the striking splash of colors will
brighten your mood at garden tending time.
If you choose to plant mint as
a garden pest deterrent, be aware that mint left to its’ own devices will run
rampant in your garden. I would suggest planting mint in strategically placed
decorative pots to ward off garden pests, without letting your tender
vegetables fall prey to a garden bully. You can then use all that extra mint to
make refreshing and cool homemade mint tea. That reason alone is enough to
warrant numerous planters of mint. Garlic and herbs play nice, and are able to
be placed side by side with your other plants.
Another easy tip to help
with garden pests is to water early in the day, so that the garden soil and
plants have time to dry out before night fall. Too much moisture on the soil
surface is very inviting to slugs and is to slugs like a flashing neon sign
saying, “ALL NIGHT BUFFET”. Too much moisture left on the plants at night fall
also leaves open for numerous fungi to move onto your plants leaves.
In
the war on garden pests, certain insects can be your ally. Lady bugs and praying
mantis are two such forces. They can rid your garden of the harmful pests while
adding a little action adventure. If you see them in your vegetable garden,
introduce yourself and make them welcomed and if you see these two insects in
other areas of your yard, relocate them to your vegetable garden and let nature
do the rest.
I have also heard of separately using crushed eggs shells,
cinnamon, coarse cut grits and coffee grounds sprinkled around the base of
plants to further deter slugs and ants. There are also numerous recipes for soap
based liquids that can be sprayed on leaves to stop the munching garden pests
without harming your plants or the environment.
So with a little bit of
homework and a tiny bit of planning, many of our vegetable gardens main pests
can be persuaded to move down the road a house or two!
